Fatima is a creative practitioner based in Wadawurrung Country, with a focus on nature, conservation, and environmental justice. Her essays have appeared in Meanjin, Liminal and other publications.
She wrote a fortnightly column in Eureka Street which won a Gold Award for Best Column in 2018 from the Australasian Religious Press Association. She was also a consulting editor and podcast producer.
Her essay No Shit, which debuted in Meanjin in 2014, was the provocation for new artistic work through Wunder Gym programs facilitated by Wyndham City in 2021 and 2023.
She was shortlisted in the 2023 KYD Prize for Creative Nonfiction for her visual essay, Path Integration.
Fatima has also been involved in local arts programs for Wyndham Arts & Culture, writing for Congress (All the Queens Men) and Red Arcade. She was a participating artist in the 2023 Wunder Gym x Melbourne Fringe Festival group exhibition, Recollection: Western Region Environment as Creative Playground.
Her debut solo exhibition Sanctuary opened at The Annex, Werribee on 21 November 2023 for a limited run.
Fatima was a Non-fiction judge for the 2019 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards, and convened the panel for the 2020 Awards.
